    Job Description

    JOB TITLE: Library IT Systems Manager

     

    CLASSIFICATION: Full-time, Exempt

     

    ENTRY LEVEL POSITION: No

    The Thomas County Public Library System is accepting applications for the position of IT Systems Manager.

     

    The Library IT Systems Manager reports to the Library Director.

     

    The Library IT Systems Manager is responsible for the day to day operations of the IT Department and works closely with Library staff to ensure the smooth operation of all computers and technology-related equipment.

     

    Duties include:

     

    Serves as Public Information Network for Electronic Services (PINES) local administrator.

     

    Coordinates with a variety of outside vendors to provide smooth and uninterrupted technology services to the Library's internal and external customers.

     

    Prepares quotes and makes recommendations to the Library Director for the effective expenditure of local, state and federal technology grants and other funds. Seeks out and applies for additional grants to enhance library services outside of the normal operating budget.

     

    Develops and distributes documentation to support technology services for the purpose of meeting the staff and customers' technology needs.

     

    Installs, configures, troubleshoots, and maintains all types of hardware, software, audiovisual and network equipment for the staff and public.

     

    Plans, develops, manages, and analyzes information technologies necessary for meeting internal and external user needs.

     

    Conducts and maintains IT equipment inventory for Library System.

     

    Prepares relevant statistics and reports; submits to Library Director monthly or as needed.

     

    Provides on-the-spot and planned staff instruction, as needed, related to user maintenance and operation of various computer hardware and software.

     

    Provides oversight of preventive maintenance, security, back up, and disaster recovery plans and procedures related to information systems, and identifies system critical data to ensure sustained operations.

     

    Provides sound strategic and technical recommendations to the Library Director on the most efficient and effective ways to manage the Library's technology program and services.

     

    Supports the tech-related projects for various TCPLS departments. Works with department staff to ensure success.

     

    Attends state-wide training as required and maintains a positive and productive professional relationship with IT professionals in the local community, the Georgia Public Library Service and other public library systems.

     

    Administrator of the E-Rate program.

     

    Works with the Teen Services Coordinator to provide creative and engaging equipment for Library Makerspace.

     

    SUPERVISION

     

    The Library IT Systems Manager may supervise staff assigned in the IT Department if applicable. The Manager may also supervise Saturday staff at the Thomasville Library on a rotating basis, as needed.

     

    TRAINING

     

    Trains new department staff in relevant IT procedures, monitors staff performance to ensure all procedures followed in accordance with current policies. When applicable, conducts annual evaluations with assigned staff, encouraging positive performance and developing plans for areas needing improvement.

     

    Performs other duties as assigned.

     

     

    EDUCATION AND OTHER INFORMATION

     

    The applicant selected for this position will assume duties as the sole IT specialist for the organization’s main downtown Thomasville library and five additional library facilities

    located throughout Thomas County. The idea candidate must demonstrate the ability to work independently and make sound judgements and decisions for the effective and efficient operation of the IT Department.

     

    College degree in computer systems or related field preferred, however, practical and relevant experience may be substituted for college degree on a case by case basis. Previous experience in a public library setting or customer service focused organization is desirable.

     

    COMPENSATION

     

    This is a full-time, exempt position with an annual starting salary of $55,000.00 plus an attractive benefits package including paid vacation, sick and personal time, participation in the Georgia State Health Benefits Plan and Georgia Teachers Retirement System.
