November 2018 Business of the Month - Lives Without Limits
Lives Without Limits focuses on improving the lives of individuals with physical or mental disabilities. Their mission is to honor the courage and spirit of individuals living with a disability by providing outdoor recreation and specialized medical equipment at little to no cost.
A Start with Family
LWL was established in 2009 by three local ladies, Beverly Hawkins, Gina Shumake and Billie Jo Beverly, becoming a 501c3 in 2011. Jerry Hawkins, one of the co-founder’s husband, was an avid outdoorsman who had a brain aneurysm. Beverly, Billie Jo and Gina came up with the idea of getting Jerry outdoors to hunt. This started the wheels turning to accomplish this, and they were able to get him hunting again. Incorporating specialized equipment and physical strength to get him in a tree to deer hunt.
Gina’s husband was diagnosed with ALS and this became a mission for them to provide outdoor recreation for others in our community. These ladies saw a need to help the disabled in our community and Live Without Limits was born.
The success of this organization over the years has been the determinization of these three women and the generous support of this community. The donations, grants, volunteers, and fundraiser response from Thomasville and the surrounding communities has allowed Lives Without Limits to fulfill their mission.
The founders love the lives they have touched over the years. They are having a long-term impact on our community. “The need in this community and everywhere is so great and being able to be a part of helping make lives of the disabled and their families a little easier by providing for their needs to the best of our ability is a blessing,” said the LWL team.
