Leadership Thomas (LT) is a program of the Thomasville-Thomas County Chamber of Commerce. LT cultivates a diverse network of emerging and experienced leaders committed to improving the community. With the support of LT graduates and the business community, LT has conducted leadership programs since 1981.
The Leadership 36 Class consists of 15 participants from various industries in Thomas County. Click here to view the Leadership 36 Class. Last month the leadership class conducted simulations, visited the Jail Justice Center, and volunteered on HOTC Day.
The Class participated in a StarPower simulation. StarPower is a real time, face to face, non-computer-based simulation game of an organization or system in which leaders are given unlimited powers to make and change the rules of the simulation. StarPower can be used for groups concerned about the ethical use of power. Their website explains its broad use and the uniqueness of the simulation.
During the visit to the Jail Justice Center, participants heard from Thomas County Sheriff’s Department (https://www.thomascountysheriff.com/) about the drug squad and were able to go inside the jail to see operations first-hand. The Thomas County Detention Facility is a major function of the Thomas County Sheriff’s Office. Currently, it operates with an annual budget of $ 1.3 million dollars.
Thomasville Police Department (https://thomasville.org/departments/police-department) also spoke with the class participants and allowed them to see a KP demonstration. Thomasville Police Department's mission is to improve and maintain the quality of life within our community by working together to achieve a common goal, "A safe and secure city."
Class 36 also volunteered during HOTC Day. They laid pine straw, pulled weeds and picked up liter throughout the parking lot.
